REPORT: Parc Nature Bois-de-Liesse – April 29, 2007

Early morning began with some light showers falling but the precipitation soon ended and by the time the first starter was on his way, the rain was over. The threat of precipitation was enough, however, to discourage a lot of folks from coming to the Park – especially those who might have gone on the Novice course. The result was a low turn-out. There were 35 “starts” which included 44 individuals (plus 6 accompanied-children under 10 years).

The feed-back on all four courses was very good and the finishing times were just about as anticipated. They ranged from a fastest of 46 to 50 minutes for Courses 2 and 1 respectively, to just over one hour on the two advanced-level courses.

Stephen Novosad got to enjoy the Bois-de-Liesse terrain the most, first covering the Intermediate 4.1 km course with his 8-year-old son, Tobin, and then recording the fastest time on the Long-Advanced (7.4 km) in one hour and 9 seconds. Afterwards he helped pick up some of the 45 “controls” used for the event. 2nd and 3rd places on Course 4 were taken by Dmitri Golovanov (1:07:02) and Stephane Rousseau (1:17:21).

Dominic Samoisette and Carl Girard topped the 4.9 km Short-Advanced course with times of 1:12:27 and 1:18:28. On Course 2 it was Éric Rondeau and Christian Reber who came 1st and 2nd respectively, registering finishes of 0:46:04 and 0:49:18.

The Novice Course (2.5 km) had only six groups participating. Mary and Laura Goyens visited the 10 controls in just 50 minutes and 20 seconds. Andrea (10-years) and Dominic (7) did the same course in 1:01:39, while being “shadowed” by their mother Barbara Schumann. Nice going kids!

Thanks are due to Stephen N, Christian R, Derek, Bruce and Elaine who helped mainly with flag pick-ups and also Barbara S who assisted with timing. Whoops, almost forgot Gloria who handled registration.

We would also like to acknowledge Patrick from the Park Administration who arrived at 9:30 to open the chalet for us. Normal opening time is 10:30.
